"Fort William", from the British East India Company settlement at Calcutta

Excellent and extremely detailed underglaze blue and white cobalt decoration after an engraving of Ft. William by Laurie and Whittle, London, 1794, which is clearly the model for the scene on the porcelain service which the authors feel was made for and used by East India Company employees at Ft. William, circa 1795.

For some more information, see The China Trade - 1600-1860, Catalog from the Royal Pavilion Art Gallery in Brighton, England, 1986, where this plate is described on page 100 as "#136 Fort William in the Kingdom of Bengal"
